Bread Ministries

It is better to build children than to repair men.
Train up a child in the way he should go:
and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Proverbs 22:6

WAYS TO PRAISE

A thankful heart leads to praise. The Scriptural words for praise have several meanings: a laudation, a hymn, to shout, to sing, to make a show [or spectacle of yourself], to boast, to be (clamorously) foolish, to rave, to play an instrument, to give thanks. The command to “Praise the Lord” has the most joyous words. The word used in “I will praise” has the meaning of reverence and worship. In the New Testament, honor and worship are included.

Read Psalms 145 through 150 and find the many reasons, ways, times, and instruments to use to praise God. If you have a concordance, you can look up verses that use “praise” in them. You will find that any time and all times are good to praise God. You can praise Him anywhere and in ways from quiet reverence to shouting and clapping for joy.

You can make up your own songs to praise God and you can make simple instruments to use in praise. They won’t sound like the real thing, but they will give you something with which to praise God. Make your own praise band and rejoice in the Lord.

HUMMER: cut a five –inch circle of wax paper. Put the paper over the end of a paper-roll tube. Fasten it in place with a rubber band. Make six holes in a triangle near the end of the tube with the paper over it. Hum or sing into the open end.

WHISTLE: cut a plastic straw three to seven inches long. Different lengths make different sounds. Flatten the straw at one end and cut it to a point. Blow on the pointed end.

TAMBOURINE: staple or lace together two paper or aluminum plates. Tie bells to the edge of the plates.

GUITAR: Cut an oval hole in the lid of a shoe or cigar box, nearer one end of the box. Glue three Popsicle sticks together and glue them to the lid near the hole to make a “bridge” for your “strings.” If you want to make a neck for your guitar, glue two short rulers together, make a slot in the end of the box nearest the hole and insert the neck in the hole. Push two or three push pins into each side of the neck to put the strings around. Use rubber bands for strings, you will need long bands for this. The wider the band, the lower the tones, so you can experiment until you find the sound you want.
